Let us further look at some popular fields of study:

Allied Medicine

Allied Medicine is a domain that consists of different healthcare careers that assist doctors in their work. It includes careers such as Physiotherapy, Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Research, Radiology, etc. Workplace for most of these careers are hospitals & pathology labs. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists can even set up their own private practice. The Allied Medicine Careers have just started to pick up steam. Expect them to become much bigger as focus of Healthcare shifts to Preventive Strartegy.

Botany

Botany involves study of plants, structure, processes, growths, etc. Those in the field of Botany conduct research and observation to discover new species, study the interactions of plants with different organisms in their environment, genetic formation of plants, etc. Study of Botany would result in Careers in landscaping, environmental consultancies, research, teaching, taxonomist, horticulturist, etc.

Nutritionist:

We can see so many lifestyle diseases all around us. And we can also see people getting more aware about being fit. This awareness of being fit has resulted in increased value attached to having right diet. Nutritionists play the central role in designing these diets. Modern India is seeing increase in demand of professionals in this field. One can associate with Hospitals, Fitness Centres or have Own setup as a career.

 Zoology

Zoology involves study of the animal kingdom. They analyse structure, life processes, genetics, physiology, classification and interactions of various species. Animal studies would happen in natural habitats & laboratories. Zoologist can work as researcher, animal breeder, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife biologist, zoo curator, conservationist, teacher, etc.

Careers in Biology-2

Food and Agriculture

It consists of various fields related to the understanding of biological and chemical processes that affect plants, dairy and the production of food. Including but not limited to food science & tech, agronomy, horticulture, dairy tech, Agricultural Engineering, etc. One can find career as scientist, agricultural consultant, agricultural manager, research and development, horticulturist, floriculturist, food technologist, dairy technologist, soil Scientist, plant scientist, animal nutritionist, etc.

Genetics

Genetics is an interesting field which comprises the study of genes, genetic variations, the heredity of living organisms and their functions. Variant topics such as Anomalies, Genetic Disease, Mutations, Traits, etc. will be studied by the professionals of this industry. Jobs related to genetics include Forensic DNA Analyst, Geneticist, Clinical Research Associate, Immunologist, Medical Technologist, Research Scientist, Cytogeneticist, etc.

Physiology

Physiologists generally study a wide variety of topics including organs, anatomy, cells, biological compounds, and muscles, and how they interact and work together to keep the body functioning. In addition to studying human physiology, there are other branches of the field, including plant physiology, cellular physiology, microbial physiology, etc. Professional opportunities in this field include working as a clinical-exercise physiologist, biomedical scientist, physiotherapist, sports physiologist, researcher, teacher/professor etc.

Microbiology

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms such as fungi, viruses, bacteria, etc. & their interactions with organisms (like humans, animals, plants, etc) in the environment. Studies are done about how different microorganisms affect our lives. There are various subfields such as virology, bacteriology, parasitology, mycology etc. Employment opportunities are found in research Labs, Pharmaceutical Companies, health sector, food industry, brewery, distillery, agriculture, etc.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry is concerned with chemical and physic-chemical processes occur in a living organization. In other words, it can actually check and record the moments in DNA, and cell development process. The field has offered immense opportunities in the industry of research. There are numerous exciting opportunities such as biomedical scientist, forensics, lab technologist, toxicologist, medical coder, teacher/professor, etc.

Environmental Science

The study of environmental science is interdisciplinary intellectual fields that include Physical, Biological, and Information Science to the study of environment and provide enough solutions to environmental problems. Topics such as Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Physics, Social, and Earth & Marine Sciences are covered under the course. These students are hired for research and other roles by various industries such as mines, water-treatment plants, fertiliser plants, etc. and different government departments and agencies such as forestry, pollution control board, agriculture, etc.

Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is another exciting field which combines biology, information technology & computer science. Work is done on developing tools-techniques for analysing biological data. One can work as Analyst or Developer with Pharma, Healthcare and Biotech Organisations, or with research agencies

Marine Biology

It is the study of involving marine life & organisms, and their behaviours with the ecological system. The field of marine biology offers job opportunities in the field of Fishery Biologist, Researcher, Aqua Culturist, Natural Resource Manager, Teaching, Fishery Biologist, etc.

Biotech

It combines biology and technology. It utilises living organisms such as cells and bacteria in the industrial process. Biotechnology professionals work on different areas to improve our life, including developing cleaner and safer fuels, improving crop yields, improving the production of food items, developing drugs to deal with deadly diseases, etc. As a Biotech graduate one can get into Pharma, Healthcare, Genetics, or Research. Organisations in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, nutrition, cosmetics, marine biotechnology, environmental conservation and waste management, etc. hire candidates with degrees in biotechnology.

Biophysics

Biophysics combines the principles of Physics with those of Biology. Biophysicists study organisms at the cellular and molecular level using the methods and approaches of Physics. It is an advancing field, involving state-of-the-art technology, physical measurements and computational models. Jobs in this field include becoming a nuclear medical biophysicist, clinical biophysicist, forensic biophysicist, nutritional biophysicist, professor, etc.

Biomedical Science

It is an applied science that combines different aspects of different disciplines to develop interventions, technology and knowledge in the domain of health care. Biomedical scientists work to study how cells, organs, and processes function in the human body, and thus, their work is applied to the understanding and treatment of diseases. The knowledge and skills gained in this field allows one to work as a biomedical scientist, clinical researcher, forensic scientist, toxicologist, immunologist, etc.

This is not an exhaustive list of careers for Biology students. There are many more Study Options & Career options available. The list would grow further if we look at Careers if a student switches from PCB in XII to other fields. In fact it would not be wrong to say that Biology offers maximum Career Opportunities to a student.
